Small tree, about 8 m high; young leaves brownish. Leaf simple, alternate, oblong, elliptic-oblong, ovate or lanceolate, 5-10 cm wide, 9-30 cm long. Inflorescence in terminal raceme or panicle, unisexual, monoecious or dioecious; flowers greenish yellow. Fruit 3-valved capsule.

Always used together with C. sublyratus. Leaf: element tonic. Flower, anthelmintic. Fruit macerate with 28-40% alcohol, as oxytocic for post-labor. Stem bark: promotes digestion. Stem bark or leaf: antidiarrheal, blood tonic. Wood: anthelmintic. Root: carminative; treatment of aller­gic dermatitis; decoction, used to relieve abdomi­nal pains, bloody and mucous stool. Stem: an ingredient in formula for muscular pain. Leaf: boil and bathe for pruritic rash.
