Erect shrub, 1-3.5 m high. Leaves pinnately trifoliolate, alternate, oblong-lanceolate; upper surface densely short-hairy; lower surface clothed with longer hairs, 1-3.5 cm wide, 1.5-10 cm long. Inflorescence in axillary peduncled raceme; flowers pea-shaped, yellow, often tinged with reddish brown. Pod linear, septate.
Root or seed: diuretic, antipyretic; treatment of nephritis with dark yellow or bloody urine; detoxifying agent. Stem or leaf: dispels gas; treatment of tendon disfunction. Leaf: antidiarrheal; relieves cough. Leaf juice: topically apply to aphthous ulcer or wounds in the ear. Whole plant: treatment of bloody vaginal discharge, fever during menstruation. Seed extract exhibits hypoglycemic activity in animal tests.
