Thai name : Prong Khao
Tree, 2-6 m high; trunk often branched. Leaves simple pinnate, crowded at the top, 1.5-2 m long; leaflets narrow linear, 0.5-1 cm wide, 17-25 cm long; petiole with a few small distant spines. Male cone cylindric ovoid to spindle-shaped, about 15 cm wide, 45 cm long. Microsporophylls deltoid-clavate, about 2.5 cm wide, 4 cm long. Macrosporophylls densely tawny silky throughout, about 16 cm long; sterile part triangular-cordate, margin deeply pectinate with subulate teeth about 2 cm long.
Seed ovoid, about 4 cm long, orange or yellow-orange. Sporophyll: tonic, carminative; treatment of biliary diseases, jaundice, bloody sputum or stool. Root: grind with rice whiskey or water, topically apply to heal wounds, bruises, swelling and chronic or infected wounds.
