Obesity - the epidemic Big Medical loves to hate

By Scott Morefield

Obesity in America is more than just an epidemic, it's the normal state of affairs. Today, 34 percent of Americans are obese (BMI of 30+), triple the 1960 percentage. The ranks of the 'morbidly obese,' or those with a BMI of 40 or more, has swelled to 6 percent, six times the 1960 rate. Another 34 percent are 'merely' overweight. That means a whopping three out of four, or 75 percent of Americans are either overweight, obese, or morbidly obese. What a sad and completely preventable statistic!

The cost of obesity is staggering. From lost productivity and absenteeism on the job to the rising health-insurance premium costs, even the non-obese have to pay obesity's hefty price tag. Read more…

Fiberglass fibers cause lung diseases and cancer

By Paul Fassa

The case against asbestos in building materials was finalized after decades of research traced several severe lung cancer incidents to asbestos poisoning. Now fiberglass, the replacement for asbestos, is under similar scrutiny for the same reasons.

Independent researchers at Cornell University discovered that sick building syndrome (SBS), which causes many occupants to suffer similar health issues, occurred mostly in recently built airtight structures without adequate internal air cleaning systems. They ran out of research funds and couldn't continue.

A couple of decades ago, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a medical wing of the Department of Labor, made an alarming discovery regarding man made mineral fibers (fiberglass). They determined that the fibers created DNA damage, which leads to chronic illness and is carcinogenic. Read more…

The risk of a heart attack is on your plate

By Jonathan Landsman

Do you want to dramatically change the course of your life? I'm talking about avoiding a massive heart attack, ineffective stent procedures or (painful) bypass surgeries. Believe it or not, you CAN unclog arteries, lower blood pressure and improve your circulation by simply eating a better diet.

It's time to update medical wisdom

In 1967, the first coronary bypass surgery was performed and everybody thought it was a "miracle" in medicine. Of course, 10 year later, the (less invasive) angioplasty was created but couldn't prevent a heart attack. By 1987, the use of stents lowered the demand for bypass surgery with NO reduction in the risk of a heart attack.

Modern medicine doesn't get it! You can NOT fix a biochemical problem - like heart disease with a mechanical (surgical) solution. By 1990, Dr. Dean Ornish, a world-renowned internist popularized the fact that anyone can reverse coronary heart disease with simple changes to diet, exercise and stress management habits. Doctors must upgrade their thinking process. Read more…

Licorice is adding a new skill to its resume: Diabetes Slayer

By Raw Michelle

The diagnosis rate of diabetes continues to rise despite widespread medical knowledge, pharmaceutical treatment, and improved understanding of the impact that diet has on the course of disease. Following the current trends, 10% of the world's population can be expected to suffer from diabetes by 2030. An inability to regulate blood sugar can lead to far more serious problems like loss of vision, widespread nerve damage, and an inability to fight off infection that can turn a tiny cut into a potential threat of gangrene.

When the side effects of the medication look the same as the disease, something is wrong

In the nucleus of each cell, a piece of machinery called the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma), regulates the use of blood sugar for energy, and converts excess blood sugar into fat storage. Current medication prescribed to people with diabetes typically targets this mechanism in an attempt to lower their blood sugar. Unfortunately, these drugs are also accompanied by common side effects that are frequently a barrier to their use, such as dizziness and nausea. Read more…

Cancer is Something We Do, Not Something We Get

Cancer is a choice. This is what cancer patient and founder of http://www.StopDoingCancer.com - Nick Kay - believes as he perseveres in his battle against cancer.

Nick is in his 30's and has an aggressive form of bladder cancer. For the past few years, doctors have tried to treat Nick's cancer in a number of different ways, but nothing has worked. As a last resort, doctors proposed radical, life changing surgery. But Nick wasn't ready to take such a drastic step and, against the advice of his medical team, decided to treat his cancer using only natural means. Nick's doctors were not supportive of this decision, telling Nick that he would not see his children grow up unless he agreed to the surgery. Read more…
